Sorting it Out; One Load at a Time

I don't know about you, but the laundry never seems to get done around our house - where is the maid, anyway?  No matter how hard I try and "make it happen", by the time I think I'm done, there are three more loads that are ready to clean.

...And do any of you ever find yourselves re-washing the same load of clothes five times because you forgot to put it in the dryer? ...please tell me I'm not the only one!

This is why I decided to figure out a way to implement a more organized, easier to handle (in theory) dirty laundry system.

This new and improved dirty laundry system could potentially be incorporated into new AND existing homes....you just need to plan ahead....
It starts with not one, but three or more separate laundry chutes.  After all, what does one laundry chute give you other than another pile somewhere else?  So, you start by sorting your clothes prior to putting them down the chute; I suggest them being labeled as "Hot", "Warm", and "Cold", but they really can be anything you'd like.

These separate chutes then fall down into a sorting bin which lives within a louvered closet in the laundry room - a space where laundry can collect without making the whole room a mess.  The chutes drop the pre-sorted clothes into each separate compartment.

When you see that you have a load ready for washing, you wash it, fold it (again, I will say, "in theory"), sort it by room, and place the clothes back in the closet where each basket can be picked up and taken to each room.

Now, if only this dream could be sorted out and made into reality!

  1. I love this idea! Well... the idea of the sorted baskets for each person. We have a ranch so chutes would just put the laundry in the basement and it would disappear... then again, probably not a bad idea!! :P Thanks for another great organizational idea. Now just to tackle where to put the new sorted laundry baskets.
